What is Figma?

Figma is an interface design tool that runs in the browser and as a desktop app, with several people able to work on the same file in real time. It is used to create mockups, clickable prototypes and design systems – component libraries plus variables for colour, typography and spacing. Files are shared by link, so designers, developers and clients all work from the same source.

How we use it at Koda Plus

We design UI for websites and online stores in Figma, ready to be built 1:1 – with a component system, screen states and tokens that share the same names in Figma and in code. Figma is part of the stack for a ballistic protection manufacturer's store and a website for space-grade 3D printing technology, and koda.plus itself was built from a Figma design. Figma files with the component library and variables are handed over to the client with the project, with editing left unlocked. Social media post templates can be prepared in Figma or Canva.

When it makes sense

  • The website or store needs a bespoke design rather than a template
  • The design must go into development without guesswork on spacing and states
  • The client's team wants to keep developing the component library
  • A clickable prototype is needed for testing before any code

Frequently asked questions
Figma

  • Will I get the Figma files when the project ends?

With us, yes – the Figma files with the component library and variables are handed over with the project. We don't lock editing, so your own team can carry on with the same library.

  • What is a design system in Figma?

It's a library of components with variants, plus variables for colour, typography and spacing that every screen relies on. When the same token names exist in code, changing an accent colour is a single edit rather than a review of the whole site.

  • Can a website be generated automatically from a Figma design?

Partly – plugins and tools can generate code from mockups, but a finished site still needs responsiveness, loading and error states, accessibility and integrations. That's why we treat a Figma design as a precise specification and build it in Astro, Next.js or Webflow.
